Richmond has had a result that they'd be keen to forget quickly, as St Kilda trounced them at Princes Park to shock the AFL.

The Saints looked on right from the first bounce, and while Richmond were able to momentarily close the margin in the second quarter, the Saints got a huge run on from there to win 15.17 (107) to 9.8 (62).

Before the game, on paper everything pointed to an easy Richmond win, given it was second on the ladder versus second last, on neutral territory at Princes Park.

That all went out the window quickly though, as the Saints piled on 4 goals to nothing in the first quarter to set up a 28-point lead at the first break.

In fact, it took Richmond more than eight minutes just to get an inside 50, let alone a goal.

To the Tigers credit, they bounced back immediately in the second quarter to kick four unanswered goals of their own, which was then followed by another four unanswered goals by the Saints to end the half with them leading by 26 points.

There would be no Tiger fightback in the second half though, with St Kilda extending their lead out to 45 points at the final siren, giving the Tigers plenty to think about for their last five games of the home and away season.

It was hard to find many winners on the day for Richmond, but Nathan Bower put in a solid showing off a wing with 16 disposals and two goals.

Chris Bond tried hard all day despite only having the 13 disposals and copping a huge whack that sent him from the field for a period of time, while Matthew Knights was serviceable with 16 touches.

Up forward, Brendon Gale kicked a pair of goals while Chris Naish, despite only kicking the one goal on this occasion (a massive torpedo from about 70m out mind you), was busy with 17 disposals.

Nick Daffy was also placed on report for tripping, but was not suspended by the tribunal.
