Richmond's winless start to its AFLW license has continued, going down to Geelong by 22 points at the Queen Elizabeth Oval in Bendigo.

While it was arguably the club's best performance across their first four games to date, ultimately they were overmatched by the Cats who won 10.7 (67) to 7.3 (45).

The Tigers showed more progress than any game in the past which is something they and their fans could hang their hats on, in what is clearly a development year for the new side.

The Cats kicked a goal in the opening minute which was an ominous sign, but the Tigers dug in and prevented their opponents from kicking another goal for the rest of the term.

Richmond hit the front for their only lead of the match when Laura McClellend converted, but Geelong had all the running from there, booting an impressive six goals for the term and taking a 27 point lead into the main break.

Some undisciplined acts continued to hurt Richmond, giving away 50m penalties and easy shots on goal that made life for Geelong that much easier.

In a tale of two halves, the Tigers put in what was probably their worst performance for a quarter in the second, and then immediately backed it up with arguably their best quarter in the third.

Richmond booted four goals to two in the third term to bring the margin back to three goals at the final change, but any comeback would have to be done without their captain Katie Brennan, who copped a nasty knock right on the three quarter time siren which ruled her out for the remainder of the game.

The last quarter was a bit of a stalemate, with only one goal being kicked, and that was from Geelong. While it made the Tigers 0-4 on the season, it was a step in the right direction, kicking their biggest total of the year to date.

Mon Conti was again the standout for the yellow and black, her second and third efforts around the contest shone above everyone else around her and she finished the day with 28 disposals, eight more than next best on the ground.

In defence, Phoebe Monahan continued her great season as a running/linking player, having almost 600 meters gained to go along with her 20 disposals.

Up forward, Sabrina Frederick while only managing the one goal, had a hand in many others with some ferocious tackling that set up a couple of Tiger goals.

Alana Woodward also had her best game of the season and did some nice things in the final term across half-forward.
