A strong-finishing Richmond were unable to get over the Gold Coast Suns in the second game of their inaugural season, falling short by 11 points.

Richmond had four more scoring shots than their opponents but the frustrating inaccuracy ultimately robbed them of a historic first win in the AFLW competition.

The Tigers booted both of their goals in the first term, already matching their effort against Carlton a week earlier, in a good sign that the team was going to continue building as the season goes on.

The Suns may have kicked away from Richmond to win the match, but the Tigers could take some positives out of running out the game stronger than their opponents, despite the humid conditions away from home.

Christina Bernardi was excellent for Richmond, picking up 15 disposals and showing plenty of creativity across the half-forward line. She finished with 1.3 which could have easily been a three or four goal game if not for some wayward kicking.

In defence, Gabrielle Seymour and Akec Makur Chuot did a great job of limiting the opportunities the Suns did have, particularly late, with Makur Chuot particularly standing out with 13 disposals.

Young tall Laura McClellend also showed some great signs for the future, taking four marks and getting herself involved at ground level also across the half-forward line.
